Utah: Salt Lake City

After a few days in Wyoming, staying with friends (and an amicable turtle) in both the north and south of the state, I turned to Utah. I'd been through (barely) last year on the way to Monument Valley. This year, I'm going through the long way, starting with Salt Lake City.

It's an easy city in which to drive. There's an abundance of free parking. My main stop was Temple Square, home of the Mormon Temple and global headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The temple area was immense and beautiful. A church elder came up to me as I snapped a picture and said, "There's not a single bad place to point a camera here," and he was right.

I wanted to take a tour of the conference center. The tour times weren't posted, so I thought that they were likely held every hour. However, as soon as I walked into the center, one of a few waiting tour guides walked up to me and I had a private tour of the immense complex.

Everyone was awfully friendly, and so well-dressed! The temple itself was inaccessible to the general public, but there were so many things to see that it didn't really matter.

I head out shortly towards Bryce Canyon, and another camp-out.
